In June of 2007, The Latina Initiative helped launch the "Colorado Ya Es Hora Ciudadania” campaign intended to inform, educate, and motivate lawful permanent residents to apply for citizenship prior to the July 30, 2007 fee increase. Due to the demand from the community the Ya Es Hora Ciudadanía Campaign continues to expand and strengthen in 2008!
Working in partnership with ACORN, The Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition (CIRC), Metropolitan Organization for People (MOP), Mi Familia Vota, Rights for All People (RAP), Univision and many others, the Latina Initiative has helped over 700 lawful permanent residents apply for citizenship.
The national and Colorado "Ya Es Hora Ciudadania" campaigns are a comprehensive civic participation community response to the pro-immigrant mobilizations of 2006. The campaign represents the largest coordinated effort to incorporate immigrants as full participants in the American political process.
Unlike past approaches, which focused individually on naturalization, voter registration, or get-out-the-vote drives, this campaign seeks to integrate all of these components into one strategy, and under a trusted umbrella.
