¿Que es LIPS?

The LIPS project was created to engage young Latinas in Denver in community action, civic participation, and the political processes that affect our lives in a fun and effective way.

What events will LIPS be working on?

  • Latina/o Advocacy Day
  • Help Legal Permanent Residents become citizens
  • Register people to vote
  • Political identity and path to leadership
  • Ballot initiatives and messaging training
  • Letter to the editor training

What are the benefits of joining LIPS?

  • Participate in the Colorado 2008 Latina/o Advocacy Day
    February 24th and 25th
  • Use the time you invest in the program as community service hours
  • Chance selected to take on a formal leadership role within COLOR
  • Possibility of being appointed to the Latina Initiative’s inaugural youth advisory
  • Earn a pair of tickets to Elitch Gardens
  • Opportunity to be part of strategic communications for political processes
  • LIPS participants could be selected for a paid temporary position with the Latina Initiative during 2008

LIPS Calendar of Events

Graduation Expectations:
To receive a LIPS certificate of completion, you must participate in:

  • Three of the six volunteer activities
  • Three of the four Cafecitos
  • One of the three local conferences

Incentives:

  • Participate in four LIPS activities by June 30th and receive 2 tickets to Elitch Gardens
  • Participate in eight LIPS activities by November 30th and receive a $50 gift card
