Research and Analysis
A strategic goal of the Latina Initiative (LI) is to be recognized as the resource for information, support, and education on getting involved in issues impacting the Latina community. In 2007, we expanded our programming to include a Research and Analysis component where we will gather, compile, analyze and disseminate data on Latina Political Participation in Colorado.
LI undertakes and participates in studies that will increase our understanding of issues of importance to Latinas and their consumer and political behaviors relative to those issues.
In 2007, we commissioned our first extensive research paper, in collaboration with the Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado. "I'm Latina and I Vote" An Examination of Latina Political Participation in Colorado was released on Friday, January 18, 2008. The report examines the history of Latina political participation in Colorado and the Southwest. It also looks at the work of the Latina Initiative to mobilize Latinas by using a community centered participation model attentive to the historic and contemporary obstacles experienced by Latinas and Latinos.
