Latina/o Advocacy Day
The purpose of Latina/o Advocacy Day is to provide advocacy/lobby training and briefings on current policy issues such as civil rights/economic justice, the environment, education, immigration and healthcare by and for Latinas and Latinos in Colorado.
- The Latino/a Issue Briefing & Advocacy Day values justice, freedom, access, opportunity, and concern for others.
- The goal of this nonpartisan event is to create a Latina/o voice at the Colorado state capitol to hold elected officials accountable for and responsive to the needs of the Latino/a community of Colorado.
- Participants will learn about prospective 2009 legislation and actually meet with their legislators, taking a direct role in the policy making process.
- Colorado residents from throughout the state hold one-on-one meetings with state legislators as part of the Advocacy Day.
On January 29, 2007, LI in partnership with COLOR presented the First Annual Colorado Latino/a Policy Issue Briefing & Advocacy Day “Building a Stronger Colorado Through Action”. The 150 + attendees participated in policy briefings on education, immigration, healthcare, and economic justice/civil rights and training with professional and citizen lobbyists on how to advocate with elected officials.
