Electoral Engagement
LI is based on the premise that Latinas can and should have a voice in our Nation's politics. The organization works year-round to communicate with thousands of Latinas with a low propensity to vote, and provides them with information and encouragement to participate in the electoral process.
In 2008, LI:
- Registered close to 5,800 Colorado voters. We exceeded our goal by 800.
- Knocked on more than 11,900 doors, distributing pertinent and relevant election information.
- Reached 6,248 Latinas by phone to answer election related questions and urged them to vote no on Amendment 46.
- Worked closely with Art an Anthropology on two bilingual, culturally relevant mail pieces designed to target and appeal to Latinas and their families.
- Wrote a non-partisan voter guide which provided a brief description of each ballot measure, as well as a pro/con synopsis. We partnered with the Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition (CIRC) and Voto Latino to print a total of 30,000 guides - 20,000 in English and 10,000 in Spanish. LI disseminated a total of 20,000 guides.
